Outreach: Feeding the Body and
Empowering the Community
- Our commitment to community service is reflected in our partnerships with local organizations and our active participation in community events. We encourage all members to get involved and share their gifts and talents in service to others. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected community that reflects the love and compassion of Christ.
- Our outreach programs are designed to address a range of needs, from providing essential resources to offering emotional and spiritual support. We invite everyone to participate and join hands in making a meaningful difference.
- At Grace Massies Mill Episcopal Church, community involvement is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in extending our faith beyond the church walls and into the community through various outreach programs and initiatives. From our food pantry to our volunteer opportunities, we strive to make a positive impact on those around us.
Outreach at Grace Episcopal
Thankful Thursday, 6:00 pm
Thankful Thursday
6:00 pm
Every week, we come together for a free meal and table fellowship with neighbors, community members, church members, and guests. On 2nd Thursdays, this meal is catered by our member George Tomlin, owner of Chef To Go. On all other Thursdays, our meal is potluck-style. You are more than welcome to bring a dish to share, but it is never a requirement. We gather for fellowship at 6, and dinner is served at 6:30. There is no agenda, just good company and good food. Whether you live alone and would enjoy a social meal, or are a parent who could use a night off from kitchen duty, or just need a reminder that there are good people of all kinds in this world, Thankful Thursday is for you.
Blessings Pantry
Blessings Pantry
24/7/365
Our Blessings Pantry is a small, always-open, free pantry on our campus that supplies basic nonperishable foods to our community. Volunteers from the parish and community stock the pantry once per day with canned goods, dried beans and grains like rice, and other shelf-stable items. Since the first pantry opened in 2020, we have fed hundreds of individuals and families. This pantry is always open, no questions asked. We simply ask that patrons be considerate of others, taking only what you need and leaving something for the next person if possible. If you need more than the pantry offers, consider our other Feeding Ministries or reach out to our priest.
Free Produce Stand
Free Produce Stand
Thursdays 5-6 pm, May-September
An extension of our Blessings Pantry ministry, the Free Produce Stand grew in response to rising grocery prices and our belief that all people deserve access to fresh ingredients. The stand offers fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, all of which are sourced locally from farmers who believe in our mission. We also accept donations from the gardens of church members, neighbors, and patrons. Patrons can select fruits and vegetables based on their own preferences and needs, being mindful of those who will come after them. In the 2024 season, we provided over 50 families with fresh produce, and we are expanding our season by a month in 2025! If you would like to contribute to this ministry in some way, please reach out to George Tomlin.
Free Lunch + Drive-Thru Food Pantry with Candlelight Ministries
Free Lunch + Drive-Thru Food Pantry with Candlelight Ministries
Fourth Mondays every month
In partnership with Candlelight Ministries, an organization that aims to reduce hunger and loneliness among elders in our area, we offer a monthly drive-thru food pantry to our community. Boxes include meat, dairy, bakery, and produce items, as well as shelf-stable ingredients. Grace also provides turkeys at the holidays. Since our partnership with Candlelight Ministries began in 2021, we have impacted over 200 families on a monthly basis. From 11:30 until 1, Grace parishioners provide a meal for early arrivals inside our parish hall. If you are not coming for lunch, patrons must arrive by 2 pm in order to be included in the count and receive food boxes. The meal and pantry are available to all ages and all family sizes.
Spiritual Walking Group
Spiritual Walking Group
Monthly, Seasonal
Join us for a time of communion with God’s beautiful creation and with fellow travelers on the way. Once a month in good weather, a small group gathers at a predetermined trailhead to walk, chat, and consider how God speaks to us through the world around us. Routes and pace are chosen with accessibility in mind. We partner with our friends at Trinity Episcopal Church in Arrington for this ministry, and welcome participants of any or no affiliation.
Benevolence Fund
Benevolence Fund
Through the generous support of our members and friends, our priest has a discretionary fund for charitable use in the community. Since 2021, this fund has prevented electric cut-offs for over 25 households, and helped heat over 30 households in the coldest part of the winter. From this fund alone, over $11,000 has been poured right back into our community in the past four years to ensure that our neighbors’ basic needs are met. Recipients of aid from the discretionary fund are of all ages, genders, races, ethnicities, and orientations, and nearly all are residents of Nelson County.
